It matters...

"Thank you for your trust, Robert.  It means a lot to me.  You're faithfully in my prayers."
"Thank y'."
"And I want to say again that I believe you."
"One or two does, maybe.  Most don't.  I guess it don't matter."
"It matters," said Father Tim.  "It matters."

Steadfast all the way through

My sister highlighted this scripture (romans 12.12) to me a few days ago and its been in my mind since then.

Yesterday I was thinking, what if God had delivered Joseph (the guy with the amazeballs coat) out of the pit on day two, he would only have delivered one man but God said, wait, because he wanted to deliver many more.... Joseph's whole family and a nation!!  We always want speedy results but God has a greater perspective

That's why we need faith and steadfastness.  I like what Beth Moore said once, 'When God says no, its actually for a bigger yes ultimately.'

Apple tart

Wayne didn't want birthday cake so we had a very simple and light apple tart.

To my best friend, Wayne

We met when we were just kids, we talked for hours about travelling and big dreams, and what was up in the world!  Your creativity, passion and dreams were colossal and I was just trying to look cool.  The days became years and I have laughed with you, cried with you, been your greatest fan and a hard critic (sorry), prayed with you, learnt from you (so much), danced with you... and grown up with you.  I wanted to root and you wanted to fly... I'm so glad we went your way.

I don't have your way with words (oh, the poems you wrote me) but I do have simple, true words -
I Love you and a very Happy birthday, to the most precious person I know!

A country walk

With a clear (albeit cold) sky, we wanted to go for a invigorating Sunday walk, before the rains came again.  For some reason we were giggling all the way... mostly because I wasn't being all that steady on my two feet.  We saw ducks, guinea fowl, birds and fields full of lilies.  Beautiful!

Our cozy night

Last night was stormy outside but we were blessed inside
by a cozy fire, a bowl of soup and a good book...

and a warm cat...

and a Becca-wins-all card game.

I didn't realise

As we park the car at home, she turns to me in an excited voice, 'Mom, do you realise that it's almost Christmas!!' I turn to her and grin.  That is not what I expected her to say.

Almost time for our tree... evidently...

If He sets you...

"If the Lord sets you to guard a lonely post in perfect stillness from all active work, you ought to be just as content as to be in the midst of the active warfare. It is no virtue to love the Master's work better than the Master's will."

from Autumn to Winter

I have driven down this road on most days for years and I never tire of the seasonal changing of these trees...

This is in mid May and the leaves had already begun to fall.

These two were taken this morning, the trees are bare and fragile looking in mid July.

But come summer they will be full and vibrant again! Beautiful all year round.

What a hoot!

Two of my dearest friends, Anthea and Louise came over yesterday afternoon for a light supper and overdue visit.  Truly, what a hoot!  We all agreed that we haven't laughed and screamed that hard in a very long time.

The menu:
Butternut and sweet potato soup
Chicken salad
and we all nibbled on Becca's pizza

The event:
Some crazy new style '30 seconds'
Lots of simultaneous catch up chatting and teasing

"A merry heart (lots of laughter) does good like medicine!" ~ Proverbs 17.22

Winter reading

This is a part of Becca's messy bookshelf...

She has written up a holiday list of books read.  Fifteen so far.  These
are a few of the books she is about to dig into.

He takes care of his own

"Consider the lilies, how they grow: they toil not, neither do they spin; yet I say unto you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these... how much more will He clothe you? You men of little faith!

~ Luke 12.27-28

The new blanket

I asked my mother to crochet me a simple blanket. When she looked at my sketch she said that it would be very boring and showed me this charming flower pattern. Settled!
It is as warm as it is beautiful!!

A box of lemons

My mom asked me for a few lemons.  Rebecca and I went into the garden and filled this box in seconds and then looked at the tree.  It looked just as laden as when we started.

Strawberry girl

Yes, it was Wimbeldon weekend and we had strawberries... actually I watched the end of the mens final in bed (shameful) with Malva pudding because Cape Town was so very c o l d !

Strawberries are by far her favourite fruit.

A good walk on a cold day

We decided to go for a late afternoon walk yesterday.  Sea Point is good in winter too.

It was such a refreshing walk made better with Seattle coffee.

My two loves.

Our Durban days

Ryan and Manuela live on the right-hand side and their balcony looks out over
this stunning forest, teeming with birds.

The happy couple - they were amazing and made us feel so welcome.

Our girl learning to body surf.

Game on!

Now this is what I call winter... beautiful hot days and time at the beach...

with seriously the best donuts, made fresh before your eyes - delicious!

We were so spoilt - thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
