Bright hues of Bougainvillea

This thorny beauty grows rampant over fences onto public areas throughout our area.
A branch brought indoors brightens up the whole room.

Life in pictures

We have been enjoying the last few weeks of summer and trying to get outdoors as much as possible...

This is my favourite part of our late afternoon/evening walk (sometimes Wayne is
on a bike) - the path through the pine trees

At our favourite market in the sunshine... good good good

We have grown the most beautiful and tasty tomatoes ever this summer.

Some of which got turned into puree... yes!

Cycling in Meerendal

and food, food, food... we have been trying out different places lately.
Its such an adventure as Cape Town has so much to offer.

Delicious imperfection

These juicy beauties were just picked... nothing like a sun-ripened tomato.

Gardening in Cape Town

The water restrictions are building our muscles... buckets/watering cans only.

A day at the farm

A day learning about chickens, rabbits, pigs (the piglets are adorable) & bees.

Our lovely outdoor lunch.

Harvesting raw honey is so rewarding and its hard to stop snacking on this edible gold.

Green growing

"Odd as I am sure it will appear to some.  I can think of no better form of personal involvement in the cure of the environment than that of gardening.  A person who is growing a garden, if he is growing it organically, is improving a piece of the world."

~ Wendell Berry, The Agrarian Essays

Humble beginnings in the garden

Spring: Its all beginning in the garden... the lemon, orange, apple and plum tree are
all full of flowers and bees.

Spinach

The little tomato bushes will hopefully bear lots of fruit.

We have started picking broadbeans.

The holiday garden

I am remembering all the lovely fruit and vegetables that we had on holiday... from the fertile ground around us.

My daily breakfast included a bowl of summer fruit.

Picking apples

This tree is in a lovely spot in the garden so it hasn't suffered too much in this drought.

We picked many apples yesterday.

Picking greens

My spinach is growing beautifully.  This is such an easy thing to grow.  Well worth it.

The pinks are blooming first.  I love this time of year.

Miracle broad beans

So many beans picked yesterday.  We then shelled them and put some into bags to freeze.

These sturdy elongated fluffy pods and tender little attachment for each bean are simply amazing to me.
