The next book
So after looking at what to read next, from this pile by my bed, I chose instead to pick up 'River, cross my heart', a book that I bought more than a decade ago. It was hidden somewhere on the bookshelf. And I'm loving it.

The Kite Runner
"When you kill a man, you steal a life. You steal his wife's right to a husband, rob his children of a father. When you tell a lie, you steal someone's right to the truth. When you cheat, you steal the right to fairness."

A book shelf
Yes, I do love a loaded bookshelf.
"So please, oh please, we beg, we pray
Go throw your TV set away
And in its place you can install
A lovely bookshelf on the wall..."

Book sorting
This is just one of three piles of books that we sorted through this weekend.
We sorted, cleaned and repacked the shelves in order.
And we ended up giving away three enormous baskets of books.

Read while they are young
"I don’t know why, but the meals we have on picnics always taste so much nicer than the ones we have indoors."

I miss reading to Rebecca... honestly, the best of times. She loved Enid Blyton.
We would gather on the couch each afternoon, under a blanket, with a cup of cocoa.
Now she reads much faster than I.

Its weekend... lots of reading
"No book is really worth reading at the age of ten which is not equally - and often far more - worth reading at the age of fifty and beyond"

Drought
'The sunny spell of weather continued unabated, and the first rapturous welcome to the heat began to turn to disenchantment. The flaunting poppies dropped their silky petals... Brown patches appeared on lawns and cracks grew wider on well-trodden earth.
Stern notices appeared in the local press about the use of hoses and sprinklers in the gardens...'

Sounds so familiar! Water is so precious.

Reading Mitford is a soul comfort... tender and cozy
"Your goodness to me has been overwhelming.
How tender you are, though I am often as tough as gristle.
How patiently you have loved me since you made up your mind to love me always."
~ Jan Karon

At home in Thrush Green
I have raced through this series and this is book 8 of 10 and I'm trying not to
start because the series is almost done! I l.o.v.e them! There are another 3 books of shorter stories (11-13) of the various characters but I have already read some of those.
I think I will save book eight to ten for the beach this summer. Bliss!

Forthright Ella
The arty lady fingered her long necklace and looked pained.
'There's nothing here that would stand up to a week's use.' proclaimed Ella forthrightly. 'Look at this object!' What is it anyway?'
'It's a hair-tidy,' quavered the arty lady.
'A hair tidy?' boomed Ella, much as Lady Bracknell declaimed: 'A handbag?'
'Who the hell ever uses a hair tidy? demanded Ella.
But her victim had fluttered away to attend a less difficult customer choosing joss-sticks, and Ella made her way home determined to look out the cane and fashion something really worthwhile.

Bookworms
Books are a journey of adventure... we are about to place our next order.
The breakfast room of a hotel Wayne was in... he knew I would adore this room.
